It’s been a minute since my last newsletter and that’s because of a couple things:
my jobby job has been pretty stressful and busy (currently getting ready to launch adult digital skills classes that I will be teaching, feel free to ask me more about what I actually do for money if you’re curious :))
I have been diligently preparing for my upcoming solo show at Bottom Feeder Books!!! Info below :D
I will be showing selections from my most recent (ongoing) body of work. The opening reception will feature tunes curated by Lexie Dobell (LEXCD) and performances by Sara Tang, Brent Nakamoto, Elina Zhang, Trē Seguritan Abalos, and Iris Kang. I would love to see you there!
In tandem with the exhibition, Jenna Peng and Elina Zhang will be facilitating TWO MORE OPEN MOUTHS, an anti-ante-auntie-seminar in lying, cheating, and stealing. This two-part workshop will be held on May 18th and 25th from 12-2:30PM at Bottom Feeder. This workshop is FREE and open to all disciplines and experience levels. Space is limited, so if you are local to Pittsburgh and are interested, please apply by May 5th!
If you can’t make the opening reception, the show will be up through June 1st and can be viewed during Bottom Feeder’s regular hours (Wed-Sun 12-6PM).
What I’ve Been Looking At
I started following Vanessa Woods on Instagram after I had saved at least three of her images from the Explore page. I’m particularly interested in her Vestiges project, as collage is something that I’ve been wanting to explore in my own work. I’ve been meaning to experiment with how to physically manipulate my images, particularly my self-portraits, and I feel that Woods does this in a compelling way.
I also got my hands on Winogrand Color, published Twin Palms Publishers. I saw this show at the Brooklyn Museum back in summer 2019 and was eager to purchase this monograph when Ryan at Bottom Feeder got it in stock.
What I’ve Been Listening To
After seeing Perfect Days, I’ve been very obsessed with this 1972 debut album Misora by Sachiko Kanenobu. Please enjoy if you like folky tunes :)
